Sword and Forcery: Armed and Unarmed Stage Violence | June 27 to July 10, 2010
Spend two intensive weeks exploring the physically challenging world of armed and unarmed theatrical violence culminating in a presentation of fully staged theatrical fight scenes from the classic repertory.
  • Unarmed combat: Safety, illusion, masking, creating the knap, misdirection of audience attention, and “acting the fight.”
  • Rapier & Dagger: Thrusts and parries, illusion, masking, weapon history, footwork, trick moves, disarms, and “skill” moves.
  • Acting the Fight: Comic fighting v. dramatic fighting. Scoring a “fight” scene with dialogue and choreography as storytelling.
  • Voice and Text: Intense language to partner with stage combat.
  • This workshop will culminate in a public performance of student work.

Anthony Carreiro
Anthony Carreiro is a master of armed and unarmed combat, fight direction, and choreography. He was certified by the Society of American Fight Directors in 1985, receiving his Advanced Certification in 1990. Mr. Carreiro was a series regular on the award winning CBS show, Doctor Doctor. He has done scores of television commercials and over a half dozen major motion pictures, including Lethal Weapon II and Liar Liar. He has worked in regional theatres and Shakespeare festivals as an actor, director, and fight choreographer up and down the West Coast and in New York. He also teaches workshops on “Theatrical Combat,” “The Business of Acting,” and “Acting for the Camera.” Since receiving his Bachelor of Arts from Cornell University and a Master of Fine Arts from the University of Washington's Professional Actor Training Program, he has created a large and small screen profile appearing in almost one hundred television shows including recurring roles on Frasier, Sister Sister, and Deadly Games.


Evelyn Carol Case
Evelyn Carol Case holds BFA and MFA degrees in acting and has performed extensively throughout the United States as a member of the Actors' Equity Association. She was a member of the Alabama Shakespeare Festival's resident company for eleven seasons, and her tenure there included seasons of rotating repertory as well as major American tours of Romeo and Juliet, Arms and the Man, and The Comedy of Errors. Ms. Case has appeared in leading roles at the Laguna Playhouse, Shakespeare Orange County, and Theatre on the Green, and also in such professional theatres as the American Stage Company, Pennsylvania Stage Company, and Arkansas Repertory Theatre. She is a member of both the Voice and Speech Trainers Association and the Shakespeare Theatre Association of America.
