  • Learn to produce stunning images created from your personal view of the natural world.

  • Learn to see the world through abstractions involving pattern, color, and form and translate those into brilliant improvisational imagery.

  • Cover soft focus methods, multiple image techniques, extraction of natural patterns, improved use and understanding of color, and more.

  • Participate in portfolio reviews, shooting lessons, and advanced PhotoShop® sessions.

  • Print color and black-and-white images for your professional portfolio.

who should apply
This workshop is for advanced beginners to professionals using SLR digital cameras who want to transform their view of nature photography, build new skills of perception and abstraction, expand skills in PhotoShop®, and build a professional print portfolio. Students should have a good working knowledge of their camera, exposure and composition, and basic digital photography skills including image capture, downloading, and editing. A working knowledge of basic PhotoShop® and being comfortable working on your computer are essential.

how to apply
  1. Submit a one-page statement describing your art and/or photojournalism experience, skill levels in photography and PhotoShop®, and other background of interest. With this, also submit a portfolio of 10 to 20 images (image files burned on CD or DVD, link to a website, or duplicate 35mm slides).

  2. Send the materials listed in Step 1 with your completed Registration Form to the Summer Arts Registration Office by Friday, May 15, 2009. THE DEADLINE TO APPLY TO THIS COURSE HAS PASSED.

Tony Sweet
Tony Sweet was honored as a Nikon Legend Behind the Lens in 2006. Author of three renowned fine art nature photography books with a fourth on the way, Mr. Sweet conducts visual artistry workshops throughout North America. His extraordinary fine art appears in galleries throughout the region as well as in many national publications. He is represented by The Getty Picture Agency, and is a staff writer for Nikon World. He specializes in improvisational, abstract imagery.

Michael Jones
Michael Jones is a master printer at West Coast Imaging who collaborates daily with top digital nature photographers from around the country to produce the highest quality fine art prints for commercial use. He frequently teaches workshops in PhotoShop® and printmaking. His passion for nature photography and portraiture has found additional outlets through the thousands of outdoor and wedding photographs he has produced, capturing the true personalities of the places and people he meets.
